Coconut milk is definitely a staple in my pantry, and I generally only ever use the canned variety. If you’re buying the carton variety, you may not be aware of the other nasty additives used such as carrageenan, tricalcium phosphate, xanthum gum, guar gum and ‘not so’ natural flavours.
They’re all pretty unnecessary when the only two ingredients required for making coconut milk is coconut and water!
Vari Hari (aka Food Babe) demonstrates in this short video how quick and simple it is to make your own coconut milk using 3 different methods, without having to scale a palm tree and crack your own coconut!! It only takes 1-2 minutes and it keeps well in your fridge for up to 5 days.
